Lion Mask

Instructions

1: First you need to print out the mask.

The mask is provided in 'pdf' format, so that after downloading you will be able to save it onto your computer and print it out again if wish. If your browser is unable to open pdf documents, you can download a free copy of "Acrobat Reader", Adobe's PDF viewer, using the link below.

Choose between the following options

Download a colour mask,
OR
Download a black and white mask,
which you can colour or decorate yourself!

For best results, print the mask onto thin card - about playing card thickness (between 150-220gsm). If you are using thicker card, you will probably need to set your printer to the "envelope" setting. Make sure that your "page setup" is set up for A4 Landscape (wide) printing.

2: The mask is almost symmetrical, so the quickest way to cut it out is to fold it carefully in half, along the dotted centre line, then you can cut both sides at once. Cut carefully along the solid grey line but take care not to cut off the fixing tab at the bottom.

3: Cut out the eyes by carefully pushing the a scissor point through the middle of the eye and then cut outwards and carefully around the solid grey line.

With the mask folded in half, cut in the short cuts across the top of the nose.

4. Trim the edge of the fixing tab.

5. Cut the along the solid grey line from the top of the mask to between the eyes.

6. Use the tip of your scissors (or other sharp point) to make the four holes one either side of the mask.

7. With the mask folded in half, carefully fold along the dotted line that runs along the bottom of the eyes. Then bend the fold back to put the crease in the other way too.

8. With the mask still folded in half, carefully fold along the dotted line that runs runs up to the nose. Then bend the fold back to put the crease in the other way again

9. Use glue or a stapler to fix the tab at the bottom of the mask to the opposite side. If you use a stapler, it's best to make sure the prongs of the staple are on the outside of the mask to prevent them scratching the wearer's face.

10. Thread thin elastic (highlighted in red in the photo) through all four holes, and tie together, leaving a little slack.

10.Your mask is finished and ready to wear!
